Paul began singing in choirs at the age of six, started playing folk music in his teens and joined a bluegrass band in 1981. He co-founded and ran ‘Acousticality’, an acoustic music club in Devon UK and Winterthur, Switzerland. In 1994 he met and studied with the overtone and gong master, Bernhard Jaeger in Tessin, Switzerland. Since then Paul has been teaching overtone singing as well as performing and recording solo and in collaborations. The Overtone Choir UKPaul Terrell & Ravi Freeman
aka. The Overtone Choir UK have been creating and performing concerts of overtone singing since 1997. CDs Sound & Light 1998 Spirals 2000 Live at Old Church 2009 Music from these CDs has appeared in the award winning films, Touching the Void, Sherpa, Limits of Belief and Three Miles North of Molkom. The collaboration of Paul Terrell and Ravi Freeman in The Overtone Choir UK resulted in a new signature sound in the world of overtone chanting. The layered voices combined with strings, flutes, gongs, bowls, bells and percussion create “ supernatural and spellbinding soundscapes that enchant and captivate like messages from beyond”. The Overtone Choir have been performing live concerts in the UK and Europe, recording and also teaching the technique of Western Overtone Singing since 1997. Justin Freeman (aka RAVI) was described by Songlines Magazine as "a walking testament to the success of multicuturalism" and performs with kora (West African harp), guitar and overtone singing. Since 1985 Ravi has released over 20 CDs, given concerts and led workshops internationaly, created the unique electric/stereo kora, worked with luminaries such as Baaba Maal, Nigel Kennedy & Jon Lord (of Deep Purple) and created pioneering projects such as "Neuneneu" with Brazilian legend Marlui Miranda, that brought Amazon indians on a tour of Europe, his band KORA COLOURS and The Overtone Project with Paul Terrell. Paul Terrell was the soloist in the first performance of Nick Korth’s piece, Harmoniae Naturales II in 2008 with the Jupiter Orchestra, conducted by Howard Moody. The first performance of ‘Shadows’, Harmoniae Naturales III was at St. Mary’s Church, Iffley, Oxford on the 11.11.11. A CD of Harmoniae Naturales I, II & III is now available from Nick Korth. |
